Weekday Services

There is a service of Holy Communion each Wednesday at 9.30am.  There are also celebrations of the Eucharist on major festivals and saints' days.  Please see the events calendar or parish magazine for times of these services.

A warm welcome awaits you at St James's.

Other Services

Baptisms

We welcome families who wish to bring their children to be baptised.  Please contact the Vicar directly or come to a church service and introduce yourself.  Baptisms are held most Sundays at 12 noon.  After arranging a date for the ceremony the Vicar will meet with you to go through the service and complete the baptism form.

Knowing More about the Christian Faith and the Church

There are regular meetings of groups for adults wishing to explore more about the Christian Faith and the Church.  Following the short course, there is the option of Confirmation.

Weddings

If you are planning to get married the best way to do so is in church in the presence of God.

You can be married in church if you have some kind of connection with St James'.  For example:

  • You live in the Parish
  • You come along to church regularly
  • You were christened or confirmed here
  • Your parents or grandparents come to church, or were married here
If you have been married before it may still be possible for you to be married in church, please speak to the Vicar about this.

For all enquires about weddings and banns of marriage please contact the Vicar.

Funerals

For many people the subject of death is a very sensitive issue.  When a loved one dies we are in a state of shock and bewilderment.  Please remember that your church cares very much and wants to support and comfort you.  If you would like a service in St James' prior to a cremation or burial please ask your Funeral Director to arrange this.  The funeral would be a service of thanksgiving with a personal tribute for the person's life.
